Chai K-Cups For Making Chai at Home
| October 10, 2010 | Filled under Chai K Cups, K Cup News |
I had never heard of Chai until I worked at Caribou Coffee. I can’t even remember when I tried it for the first time. Once I did, I fell in love with it. I could drink a Chai latte just about every days. They are silky smooth with a hint of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger. It is warm, but a weaker and more soothing drink that my typical morning coffee (which can be “hello, it is time to face the cold world, you better have energy to do it”).
While making coffee or even espresso at home has been around for 100s of years, I can’t imagine that many people would venture to make Chai tea in their home. Since Chai has various spices that need to be measured and ground precisely, it is best left up to the professionals. You can buy Chai tea bags and then make your own latte, but I have found that it is just not the same as getting a great Chai latte from Caribou. I was excited to find out that you can now buy Chai Tea K-Cups from a couple manufacturers.
- Gloria Jeans Chai Tea K-Cups
taste closer to regular black tea than a Chai with less spices and aroma than I was expecting. Still good and some people may prefer this flavor. Gloria Jeans appears to have the best assortment of K-Cup quantities at Amazon.
- Celestial Seasonings K-cups India Spice Chai is probably the most traditional Chai of the three K-Cup products. It has a heavy spice taste and aroma. Celestial Seasonings has been in the business since 1969 and specializes in tea. Because of the strength of this K-Cup, it might be the correct one if you are typically making milk based drinks, such as lattes, that will dilute the spice taste (and may wash out the other 2 brands weaker taste).
- Timothy’s Chai Tea K-Cups
have a gentler spice taste than the Celestial Seasonings, but more traditional than the Gloria Jeans. I found this was a wonderful drink for after dinner, maybe smoking a nice mild cigar outside watching the sun go down.
- Here are other brands that I have not tried, but come from reputable coffee companies:
- Cafe Escapes Chai Latte K-Cups
- Green Mountain Coffee Chai Latte K-Cups
- Bigelow Tea Chai K-Cup
- Cafe Escapes Chai Latte K-Cups
If you love Chai and love coffee k-cups, any of the Chai K-Cups will work great for you. Buy a package of each brand and see which you prefer. With this much convenience, you may be drinking this every morning instead of coffee!
